When these compounds have been evaluated in animal models of cancer, the extended half-life and targeting to specific receptors results in remarkable safety and efficacy above that which could be achieved with the parent drug alone. Serina has focused on approved drugs, therefore reducing the risk of development through proven utility in the clinical setting.

Serina has created the only synthetic drug candidates that combine both passive targeting to the tumor through the "enhanced permeation and retention effect" (EPR) and intracellular transport through active targeting to the specific cancer cell surface.
