Serina Therapeutics, Inc. Closes $ 9.5 Million Financing Round

Huntsville, AL — Serina Therapeutics, Inc. President and CEO Randall Moreadith, MD, PhD, reported today that Serina has closed on a $ 9.5 million financing round to advance its lead oncology candidate SER-203 into a Phase I study in humans in early 2012.
"We are pleased to report to our existing and new shareholders the closing of the Series A-2 financing round that was launched in late 2010. This is a very significant milestone for Serina Therapeutics, and will allow us to advance our lead oncology candidate into Phase I and continue to build a robust pipeline of novel polymer therapeutics for unmet medical needs," stated Dr. Moreadith.

Serina Therapeutics awarded patent for its core polymer drug delivery technology

Huntsville, AL — Serina Therapeutics, Inc., a pharmaceutical research and development company, announced that the company was awarded a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office covering its polymer technology. The patent entitled "Polyoxazoline and compositions comprising the same" (U.S. Patent No. 7,943,141) covers the synthesis and composition of polyoxazolines for the delivery of different drug molecules.
The patent represents years of groundbreaking research in the development of safe polyoxazoline polymers for drug delivery. It is the first of many patents that Serina has applied for. "This patent award validates our invention and design of a novel drug delivery platform and allows Serina the opportunity to advance some of its proprietary ideas towards full development and eventually commercialization", said Dr. Michael D. Bentley, Chief Scientific Officer and cofounder of the company. "We are now in a position to build a strong pipeline of polymer therapeutic molecules".

Serina Therapeutics receives Qualifying Therapeutic and Discovery Grant

Huntsville, AL — Serina Therapeutics, Inc., a pharmaceutical research and development company, announced that it received a Qualifying Therapeutic and Discovery Grant (QTDP) totaling approximately $244,479. The QTDP program was created by the U.S. Congress as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed on March 23, 2010. The total amount of grant money available nationwide is $1 billion, and the grants were awarded to emerging therapeutic and diagnostic companies focusing on significant unmet clinical needs.
Serina submitted a single grant application for its lead drug candidate that utilizes its polyoxazoline polymer technology. “We are grateful for the financial support from this QTDP grant,” said Dr. Tacey Viegas, Chief Operating Officer and designee of the grant. “Receiving this competitive award validates our drug delivery platform. We will use this cash award to support the ongoing development of our lead oncology drug candidate”.
Serina Therapeutics to present at upcoming scientific conferences

Huntsville, AL — Serina Therapeutics, Inc. is scheduled to present at three upcoming scientific meetings this summer. Mr. Remy Gross, Business Development, will present at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists National Biotechnology Conference in San Francisco on Monday, May 17th. The title of the abstract is “Polyoxazoline: a biopolymer for the delivery of proteins, peptides and small molecules”.
Dr. Milton Harris, President of Serina will present at the Polymer Therapeutics Conference in Valencia, Spain on May 26th. His talk will be in the session on New Synthetic Approaches in Polymer Therapeutics and is entitled “Modification of Biopharmaceuticals with Polyoxazoline (POZ)”.
Dr. Tacey Viegas, Chief Operating Officer of Serina will present at the Controlled Release Society annual meeting in Portland, Oregon on July 12th. His talk will be in the Polymers in Medicine session and is entitled “Polyoxazoline: a biopolymer for the delivery of proteins, peptides and small molecules”.
